TENZING Partners acted as the exclusive financial advisor to the founder of Butet in the sale of the company through a Leverage Buy Out (LBO) to two French entrepreneurs, ensuring a smooth transition of ownership.
Business Overview
Founded nearly 25 years ago by Frédéric Butet and based in Saumur, France, Butet is a globally recognized reference in high-end equestrian saddles. The company specializes in the design, production, and sale of premium saddles tailored for professional and advanced amateur riders in show jumping and eventing. Known for its craftsmanship and precision, Butet has built a strong reputation among top equestrian athletes, including Olympic champions Eric Lamaze (2008) and Chris Kappler (2004).
Transaction Details
Mandated early in the process, TENZING Partners assisted the founder in structuring a succession strategy that aligned with two key objectives:
Industry consolidation: Butet operates in a highly fragmented sector, and this transaction contributes to the development of a stronger, more structured luxury saddlery market.
Strategic positioning: The sale capitalizes on the growing value of the luxury and outdoor sports markets, reinforcing Butet’s premium status.
The company was acquired by Arnaud Lièvre and Olivier Perdrix, two French entrepreneurs with prior business experience but new to the equestrian sector. To ensure continuity, Frédéric Butet will remain involved for a transitional period of three years to support the business’s evolution.
TENZING Partners played a key role in structuring and executing the transaction, ensuring a successful transition and positioning Butet for continued growth in the high-end equestrian market.
